Submit your ideas for budget reductions today
Citizen input is important and helpful as we make necessary adjustments in the 2009-2010 Mankato Area Public Schools' budget. Submit your ideas for budget reductions today, but no later than Friday, January 9, 2009, by one of the following methods:
E-Mail: Online: Budget reduction suggestion form U.S. Postal Mail: Ed Waltman, Superintendent Intergovernmental Center 10 Civic Center Plaza, Suite 2 Mankato, MN 56001 Telephone: 507-387-1868
Several factors have influenced the decision to start planning for adjustments. As a result of very difficult economic conditions, it is anticipated that:
State of Minnesota educational funding formulas will not keep pace with increasing educational costs.
Special education costs will continue to rise without a corresponding increase in state and federal revenues for those services. At the present time, the local subsidy for special education service has increased by over 4 million dollars.
2009-10 School Year Projection Assumptions No revenue increase for 2009-10 Expenditure Increase of 3% Projection assumptions result in a more than $3 million projected deficit for 2009-10
